The InScale research project, in collaboration with Ericsson AB and IKEA IT AB, aims to support large-scale InnerSource transformations in companies. InnerSource involves applying open source software development principles within a company to enhance collaboration, transparency, and knowledge sharing across different geographies and business units.

As software development continues to evolve, many companies recognize the need to break down silos and accelerate innovation. InnerSource presents a strategic approach to achieve these goals, offering significant benefits such as faster time-to-market, improved code reuse, and enhanced product quality. Despite its advantages, scaling InnerSource initiatives to more business units and teams within an organization remains a challenge.

The InScale project aims to overcome these challenges by providing strategic guidance such as best practices for company-wide InnerSource transformation. In addition, InScale will develop and validate measures to monitor and ensure the effectiveness and long-term success of InnerSource initiatives. InScale provided guidance will help organizations tackle the complexities of adopting InnerSource on a larger scale.
