Johanna Börrefors received her doctorate in legal sociology at Lund University in 2007 with the thesis An essay on aesthetic intelligence (monography). Since 2008, in addition to Lund University, she has taught as senior lecturer at Malmö University, Linnaeus University including police education and at Örebro University.

Teaching has mainly been in qualitative methods, sociology, criminology, police work, leadership and organization as well as in theory of science, which also includes supervision and examination of a large number of bachelor’s and master’s theses. In addition, she has extensive experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, courses and sub-courses.

Her research area (as of spring 2024) is innovation and high ability in adults.
